Though the records do not prove it, this game will be one of the best games of the seasons. Two of the best members of MPL face off against one another for their first wins of the season. Sully comes into this game with a tough loss to the Cardinals, led by rookie Trusion, and have been struggling offensively. Readywhenever is coming off one of the greatest seasons in MPL history, but has yet to secure a win in this season. Both members plan on coming out of this one with a win under their belt, but only one team can win.

The 49ers (Sully)

With as much talent on offense as the 49ers have, they should be scoring more points, especially against weak defenses which they were unable to do last week. Going 3 and out multiple times throughout a game will not cut it, nor will getting as close as the 3 yard line and being forced to kick a field goal. The key to success in this offense is Alex Smith. His instability is a major concern which will need to be addressed quickly. Without a consistent passing game, defenses will start stacking the line to stop the run and their offense will be in trouble. Frank Gore has tremendous talent, but without a passing game to open up some spots, it would seem impossible to win.

Last week against the Cardinals, the 49ers got torched by Matt Leinart for 296 yards and a touchdown. But to the 49ers credit, they were able to pick him off twice, one which was a fluke. Their run defense was able to stop Edgerrin James, who is a proven elite running back, to only 49 yards off of 15 carries. But when they got too aggressive, they got burnt for a touchdown on a play action pass. If this defense can play smarter and create more turnovers, they should have no problem stopping the Rams offensive unit.

The Rams (Readywhenever)

With changes in the offensive playbooks and play calling, nothing can be certain about what we will see out of the Rams offense this week. Last week though, the Seahawks were able to shut down this high power crew and were able to pull off a huge upset. Stephen Jackson has to be used more on the ground for this offense to get to where they want to be. With a good running game comes more stacks in the box, meaning more wide receivers in man to man coverage. The Rams have plenty of passing targets like holt, bruce, Bennett, mcmichael, hall, and even Jackson out of the backfield. This offense should be one of the best in the league, but they have yet to be able to put it all together when it counts.

With a nice pass rush with Glover and Little, it would seem to make jobs easier for those in the secondary…but it hasn’t been enough. Matt Hasselbeck last week went 10/14 for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did also throw 2 INTs, but they weren’t enough to get a win for the Rams. The defense is fast at times, but in other times they can be very slow, mentally. Besides a few key veterans, this defense is very young. With this inexperienced crew, it is readywhenever’s job to get them on the same page or else they will be horrid.

This may be unordinary, but this week’s key match up is Alex Smith vs. the Rams defense. If Alex Smith can get the passing game involved, the running game would then be open and Gore will have a monster day and will lead the 49ers to victory. But if Alex Smith gets shut down by the Rams defense, then the running game wont be able to get involved and the 49ers will be forced to pass the ball which could lead to many turnovers and a win for the Rams.

With these two veteran members going head to head, no one can tell what could actually occur. I believe that Alex Smith will step his game up and give the 49ers a much needed push in the passing game. Readywhenever will drop to 0-2 for the first time in his MPL career and sully will go to 1-1.
